Humanoid Robot Stocks: Is Embodied AI Becoming the Next Major AI Investment Theme?

Humanoid robot stocks are becoming one of the newest themes in artificial intelligence.

The first AI boom focused on software, GPUs and data centers. The next phase could bring AI into the physical world through robots that can walk, lift, sort, assemble and interact with real environments.

This is often called embodied AI.

The opportunity could be large. But the technology still has major limitations.

What Is Embodied AI?

Traditional AI mainly works inside computers.

Embodied AI connects artificial intelligence to a physical machine.

A humanoid robot needs to:

see its environment → understand a task → decide what to do → physically perform it

That requires much more than a chatbot.

Robots need cameras, sensors, motors, AI processors, memory and software capable of reacting to unpredictable environments.

This creates a new technology stack around AI.

Why Humanoid Robots Are Trending Now

The biggest change is that companies are beginning to move from prototypes toward commercial testing.

Chinese startup Spirit AI says it expects an important breakthrough in robot intelligence around 2027. Its humanoid robots are already being used in production environments at CATL and JD.com.

Toyota is also planning a major factory-automation push. The company estimates its future modernization program could require around 400,000 robots, including humanoid and conventional machines.

That matters because factories may be the first major market where humanoid robots prove their economic value.

Why Factories Come Before Homes

A household is extremely unpredictable.

A robot may need to handle stairs, pets, fragile objects, unusual furniture and thousands of different tasks.

Factories are easier.

The environment is controlled and repetitive.

A humanoid robot might only need to:

  • move boxes
  • carry components
  • load machinery
  • inspect products
  • perform repetitive assembly work

That makes industrial automation a more realistic first market.

Spirit AI estimates widespread home use could still be more than eight years away.

Which Companies Have Humanoid Robot Exposure?

Public-market exposure is already appearing in several forms.

Hyundai and Boston Dynamics

Hyundai owns Boston Dynamics, developer of the Atlas humanoid robot.

Hyundai plans to begin deploying Atlas robots at its U.S. manufacturing operations and is developing production capacity that could eventually reach 30,000 robots per year. Boston Dynamics itself remains unprofitable, showing how early the industry still is.

Unitree

Chinese robotics company Unitree has become one of the most visible humanoid manufacturers.

Its Shanghai IPO attracted enormous demand, with the retail offering more than 8,000 times oversubscribed. However, the valuation reached roughly 219 times 2025 earnings, highlighting the speculative enthusiasm surrounding the sector.

XPeng

Chinese EV maker XPeng is also expanding into humanoid robots.

The company plans commercial deliveries of its IRON humanoid robot in 2027, while management believes robotics could eventually become an important business alongside vehicles.

Other AI and semiconductor companies could benefit indirectly by supplying the processors, memory and computing infrastructure robots require.

Could Robotics Create Another AI Chip Boom?

Humanoid robots need significant computing power.

A robot must continuously process information from:

  • cameras
  • microphones
  • movement sensors
  • environmental data

It then needs AI models to decide how to act.

Large-scale robot adoption could therefore create another source of demand for AI chips, memory and edge computing.

The AI opportunity would move from:

data centers → software → machines operating in the physical world

That is why robotics could become an important extension of the existing AI infrastructure cycle.

But the Technology Is Still Early

Today’s humanoid robots remain far from human-level flexibility.

Reuters found that many Chinese robots still struggle with relatively simple factory tasks and require extensive human training. Some can perform impressive demonstrations but fail when conditions change unexpectedly.

The biggest challenges include:

Dexterity: Human hands remain extremely difficult to reproduce.

Reliability: Factories need machines that can work repeatedly without frequent failures.

Cost: Robots must save more money than they cost to buy and maintain.

Training data: Physical AI requires enormous amounts of real-world movement data.

These problems determine whether humanoid robotics becomes a real industry or remains largely a technology demonstration.

What Would Confirm a Real Robotics Boom?

Investors should watch actual commercial adoption rather than impressive videos.

Important signals include:

  • factory deployments
  • robot production volumes
  • cost per robot
  • reliability
  • customer orders
  • robotics revenue
  • AI hardware demand

The most important metric may ultimately be cost per productive hour.

If a humanoid robot can perform useful work more cheaply and reliably than existing alternatives, adoption could accelerate quickly.

What Should Investors Watch?

The humanoid-robot theme combines several major trends:

AI + automation + semiconductor demand + labor shortages

That gives the sector significant long-term potential.

But current valuations in parts of the market already assume substantial future success.

The key question is therefore not whether robots can walk, dance or perform demonstrations.

It is:

Can they perform useful economic work reliably and at scale?

If the answer increasingly becomes yes, embodied AI could become one of the next major extensions of the artificial-intelligence investment cycle.
